About Us

Hi, I’m Dave Hayes. Yeah, that’s me waving at my drone at Squirrel Point. I’ve been coming to our family camp since I was a baby and Maine has always been the best part of my life. As I approach retirement, I find myself increasingly drawn to the state and, particularly, the Kennebec. This page is part of my efforts to dive deeper into its history and nature.

My wife Lori (pictured with our dogs Lizzy and Quill while I fly the drone), retired in 2022 to become a full time artist. That summer we started filming videos of Maine and its artists.

Best thing we ever did! We made lots of new friends, especially in Hallowell, and I rediscovered my photography roots. Fortunately, Lori doesn’t mind holding the dogs leash now and then while I get the shot.

Of course, Lori doesn’t care to be in the boat with me while I spend hours taking pictures of the river. So that’s me off by myself in my boat, “Lil’ Blue.” I got the boat in 2023 to explore the river, but repairs and the weather (wow it rained a lot) really limited the opportunities to explore the river. Hopefully, Li'l’ Blue and I will be able to range farther both up and down the river in 2024.

Sadly, I can’t always take Lizzy and Quill with me. Lizzy, the beautiful blonde Shephard/Husky mix, prefers the comfort of our lake boat, and Quill, the brindle Hippo/Potato mix, gets too hot in the sun. Still, they do get to go along on my morning Loon quests on the lake and our road trips & hikes along the Kennebec.
